Overcast Day..Camera away?

I have done blog posts about what to do when its sunny and rainy. Now it is time for what to do on a overcast days. This is the easiest one to write.

Soft Light

Have you ever shot photos on a clear sunny day and see the horrible shadows on your models face? They almost make it appear as if they have panda eyes. Well, the clouds diffuse the light and make it soft and very flattening for your model. Its like having a big soft box.

But…I am a landscape photographer

I bet you are thinking clouds are my enemy, but they can also be your friend as well. I recommend looking for the breaks in the clouds where beams of sunlight come shining through. It can really create a dramatic photo and add depth to your photos..go give it a go.

Long exposure is your friend.

Another tip for the landscape photographers, but it can be used by everyone. Use a longer shutter speed, you may need to invest in an ND filter for during the day. But its a great way to blend the clouds and can create a beautiful image.

So when the clouds come out, do not pack the camera away. Get out and capture some great images.
